MasterCard and Diners Club have formed an alliance in North America that allows merchants processing MasterCard transactions the ability to accept Diners Club cards. If your company currently accepts both cards at all their North America locations this acceptance alliance will not impact your sales.
Currently, Diners Club in North America is issuing new cards to all their card members, which will display a combined logo (MasterCard and Diners Club). Additionally, existing cards that begin with “38” will be replaced with cards starting with “5”. As a result, these transactions will appear on the processor statement as MasterCard transactions.
In order to have the hotels’ systems recognize the international Diners Club cards as MasterCard transactions, it may be necessary to implement configuration changes to your property management system and point-of-sale system.
